STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
minor update May 2009
Little People Academy is offers 1/2-day programs for 3 and 4 year old children two, three, or five days per week. The core curriculum of the program is geared toward language development, social development, and the development of the readiness skills necessary to enter kindergarten. Youngsters will foster play skills, develop fine and gross motor abilities, and engage in a variety of group activities, all in a safe, faith-based setting.
Daily schedules incorporate active and quiet type activities, alternated throughout the daily programs. Each activity in our curriculum is designed to enhance the pre-school experience for our students and to help them in their development. Any "curriculum" for a pre-schooler needs to be introduced through the medium of play so that children explore at their own level. A typical daily schedule will include Children’s Welcome, Morning Circle, Group Activity (music, art, language, or science), Constructed Free Play, and Story Time. Our open door policy allows parents to feel free to visit and observe their children during these activities.
Ms. Janine Mandera, the lead teacher, earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education and her Master of Science degree in Elementary Education. Ms. Mandera, along with Ms. Mairéad Barry, are able to address the individual learning needs of each child. As parents of young children, they are intimately aware of the developmental level and social/emotional needs of preschool age children.
