The Care Center: Nina Aprea, Exec. Director
Sunday, September 16, 2007

The executive director of The Care Center of Islandia (NY) brought the message of God's Word and God's work to a sexually confused and often irresponsible society to both morning worship services.  With a powerful testimony of God's work at this center and in her personal life, Ms. Aprea captivated the congregation.

The Care Center has a very well-done web site (click on image below to go there) and an outstanding staff.  These caring and loving people make a remarkable difference in the lives of many youth and younger adults.  You have not explored all the choices of an unexpected pregnancy until you have talked to The Care Center!

The Great Escape 2007 - Johnstown, PA
July 30 to August 4

From the website:   Click here!

The Great Escape Johnstown was phenomenal!  The week packed in spiritual growth and fun at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.  Days started with large recreation activities on one of the many plush fields on campus, move into large and small group meeting times in the afternoon, enjoy some free time for playing sports, then wrap up with a large, powerful evening filled with music and a message.  On the free day, the Mineola group went swimming!  "Our aim is to provide an experience that both pushes students spiritually while also showing them that being a Christian can be a whole lot of fun!"

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED TO THE OVERALL COST OF THE CONFERENCE TRIP.  You have been a blessing!

Boy Scout Sunday
was celebrated on
April 15, 2007

We celebrated our long-term relationship with Troop 45 on Sunday, April 15th during the 10:00 AM worship service.  Senior Patrol Leader Bryan Strauss and Scoutmaster Steve Grosskopf ("Mr. G") presented the troop and spoke of their love of scouting and the "family" relationships, both within the troop and with the congregation.

The congregation, led by Pastor Easton, recommitted themselves to support and pray for the troop and its members.

On the Saturday before the celebration, many members of the Troop family (men and boys) turned out for a Work Day at the church.  The work done was in appreciation for First Presbyterian serving as the troop's "home."  So much was done!  The sanctuary pews/cushions were polished and "Febreze-d," flowers were planted outside, work on the playground fence progressed, a new sound system was installed in the auditorium, and the huge auditorium floor was stripped and refinished.  Whew!

Unfortunately, due to the nasty Nor'easter, with high winds and pouring rain, the attendence on Sunday was underwhelming.  However, inside, spirits were high.  A wonderful time of refreshments and fellowship followed the service.

Guest Speaker: Mr. James Leon

On Sunday, May 6th, our special guest was a representative of Long Island YOUTH FOR CHRIST, Mr. James Leon.  Mr. Leon has spoken numerous times in churches about the YFC ministry.  We are grateful for the opportunity we had to welcome James to our community.

Walter Hoving Home Choir
Sunday, September 9, 2007

We were so blessed by the women's choir (Sounds of Life) of the Walter Hoving Home when they visited the morning worship service on September 9th.  The women shared moving PRAISE and TESTIMONY.

The Hoving Home has been one of the congregation's mission outreaches for MANY years.  More information can be found at their web site (click on the image below).

Nearly-new women's clothing (not out-of-style) was given to the women after our Fellowship Luncheon, completely surprising many (all?) of them.

Glad so many could join us at worship on September 9th!

World Vision
30-Hour Famine

Our Youth Group annually participates in the fund-raiser and awareness-creator event sponsored by World Vision concerning world hunger.  The 2007 theme is: Starve Hunger

Five young ladies began the 30-hour fast after their noon meal on Maundy Thursday (April 5th) and broke the fast at 6:00 PM on Good Friday (April 6th).

Congratulations to:
      Ashley R.         Jenna M.        Alana R.
      Gianna W.        Rachel E.

The youth solicited sponsors who gave generously and sacrificially that other children may live.

We learned last year that 29,000 children a day die worldwide from disease, hunger and related issues.  That's 10.5 million souls per year.

The Resurrection Search
2007

Holy Saturday, April 7, 2007

A very special event was held for our children (ages 3-10).  The RESURRECTION SEARCH is a type of scavenger hunt and Biblical character encounters developed by our own Dottie Easton.  Some of the characters met during the SEARCH were Judas, Pilate, a Roman soldier, Peter, and an angel.

Following the SEARCH, a more traditional Easter Egg Hunt was enjoyed by the children!
