Just Some Men
on Saturday Mornings
Well, for many years some leaders prayed that First Presbyterian would develop a MEN'S MINISTRY that was more than a social group. And then it happened: 5-8 men meeting early for discussion, Bible study, some work projects, and a growing love for our relationships with one another. Started about May 2004, I think.
We have met almost every Saturday morning since then. We arrive at (more or less) 7:15 AM, and stay until 8:30 AM (official) or 9:00 AM or whenever.
We have studied materials such as:
- Every Man's Battle by Stephen Arterburn & Fred Stoeker (Mike Yorkey, editor)
- Being God's Man by Pursuing Friendships by Stephen Arterburn, Kenny Luck and Todd Wendorff
- a Biblical study on the life and influence of Abraham
- Developing a Faith that Works (vol. 1,2) by Pastor Rick Warren [a study based on the book of James]
- A Spiritual Road Map in a Mixed Up World (vol. 1,2) by the folks at Saddleback Church and Purpose-Driven Life [a study of the book of First Thessalonians]
- Letters from Dad by Greg Vaughn
In mid-March 2007, we will begin (God-willing) another series of studies from the Purpose-Driven Life folks at Saddleback Church. Experiencing Christ Together should prove to be another conversation-starter and faith-builder. The first study in the series is Beginning in Christ. The Purpose-Driven website says:
Get to know Jesus as his followers did: as Teacher, Healer, Shepherd, Servant, Savior, and Risen Lord. These six sessions balance God’s purposes for your spiritual life. Lessons are taught by seasoned teachers including Kay Arthur, Tom Mullins, Doug Fields, Mike Meeks, Mike Breaux, and Dave Rodriguez.
